The following types of non-removable prostheses are distinguished:
Inlays/Onlays
Veneers
Artificial crowns
Bridge prostheses
An prosthodontic inlays/onlays are used to achieve a pleasant aesthetic result during the process of cavity filling. A ceramic inlay/onlay is made digitally. It is modeled and further milled by the CAD / CAM device. The ceramic inlay/onlay does not change color and is much more tough and damage resistant compared to a filling. Veneers are used to improve color, shape, and aesthetics of a tooth. It is made of porcelain. It has a highly pleasing aesthetic and although the veneer is thin itself, the adhesive fixation on the tooth ensures its solidity. The veneer is fixed to the vestibular surface of the tooth, hence the oral surface of the tooth remains untreated. During the creation of a veneer we take into account the patient’s face shape. After taking into account these parameters and patient requirements, a temporary construction is created. After a positive evaluation from the patient, a permanent job is prepared. Veneering is completed by a digital technology.
Artificial crowns are used to restore the anatomical shape and integrity of a tooth. There are artificial crowns of plastic, metal-ceramic, zircon-ceramic, cast metal, porcelain. All five surfaces of the tooth are prepared to make an artificial crown. It is aesthetically pleasing to make artificial teeth which mimic the natural color of the rest of the teeth in the oral cavity. Ceramic and zircon-ceramic artificial crowns are known for the best aesthetics. They can be made digitally as well as in a conventional technical laboratory.
Bridge prostheses are used to restore missing teeth and the chewing function. Fixation of the bridge prosthesis is done by using dental cement on the abutment teeth. Metal-ceramic or zircon-ceramic bridge prostheses are mostly used. Metal ceramic is a carcass made of stainless steel coated with porcelain, while zircon ceramic is made of zirconium dioxide. Dental implants can also be used to support a bridge prosthesis.
